What are pullulan capsules made of? Pullulan capsules are gelatin-free capsules made from tapioca starch, also known as amylose. They are a relative new generation of capsules that meet the growing demand of the vegetarian and plant-based market. These capsules have excellent oxygen barrier properties, which makes them able to protect nutrients and API’s from oxidation. The capsules are able to extend shelf life of products, thus the costs in general will be reduced. Furthermore, the capsules are appealing because of their transparent appearance, and they are perfect for encapsulation machines due to their non-brittle and moisture properties, which makes them run flawlessly through high-speed encapsulation machines. For over 40 years Pullulan has successfully been used in the pharmaceutical and food sector.
